Introduction To ANSÜR Saddle Fitting Manual

Hello!

Thank you for considering the Ansür saddle for your horse and yourself.  We sincerely hope that you will find it to be the “Answer” to your saddlery needs.

Riders new to the Ansür often have questions about the proper way to “fit” the saddle to individual horses.  We have prepared this fitting manual to help answer many of these questions.  Included are pictures of horses with a wide variety of conformations along with our recommendation for additional padding, if needed.

Almost every horse that is first ridden in an Ansür accepts it immediately…performing better from the first ride.  But some horses, such as those with muscle wastage, prominent withers and spines, will benefit from the addition of supplemental padding.

The pads we recommend for use with an Ansür are:

  • Dorsal Supplement (to fill in if the horse has muscle wastage on one or both sides of the spine);

  • Forelift (to lift the front edge of the saddle if the horse is higher in the croup than the wither);

  • Dorsal Supplement Front Wedge (to fill in moderate hollows on either side of steep,
    narrow withers);

  • Shoulder Shims (to fill in hollows behind the shoulder)

Once you have determined which pad will be helpful to your horse, please re-examine his back every month or so.  Generally the horses will, when ridden exclusively in the Ansür, re-develop muscling.  As this occurs, the need for supplemental padding may diminish.

If you do not find a horse in this manual that is shaped like yours, please contact us.  We will be happy to assist you in determining which, if any, pads should be used for your equine partner. This booklet is a work in progress; additional conformation pictures plus recommended padding will continue to be added.

If you have multiple horses of differing breeds and conformations, we recommend that you purchase a set of the pads mentioned above (under $200.)  This will give you the tools necessary to easily accommodate their individual conformations.

Also, towards the back of the booklet we have included exercises for you to perform with your horse.  Riders tell us that these exercises, when done very slowly, and with precision, are very helpful in transitioning to the Ansür saddle.

We hope you find this manual to be informative.  Please let us know if we can assist you with any questions you have about the Ansür saddle.
