Supplemental Padding Guide
Our pads and their recommended use

      Dorsal Supplement Pad

  • The DS pad is intended to be used on horses that have muscle wastage through the dorsal muscles on either side of the spine. It is a pad shaped to fill in for this lack of muscular development.  After the horse is ridden for a period of time in the Ansür, you may find this pad can be removed because the muscles on either side of the spine have developed.

  • To determine if your horse needs the DS pad, assess his back by standing on a bucket approximately 3 feet behind his tail.  Look at the part of his back where you will be sitting when you ride the horse.

  • If the spine is prominent, or there is a drop-off on either side of the spine, the DS would be appropriate.

  • The DS can be used in combination with the Forelift Pad or the Shims as necessary to accommodate your horse’s conformation.

  • One half of the DS pad can be used if your horse is developed in the dorsal muscle region on one side of his back but is dropped off on the other side.  Adding one-half of the DS pad to a horse with this type of conformation will also help to balance the saddle laterally for the rider.
