Rebecca Competing in FL on Call Me Walter

When one of the barns at Moon Rising Farm, a dressage and eventing facility in Maryland co-owned by Rebecca Roach and Victoria Carson, burned to the ground in the fall of 2007, not a single horse was harmed. Yet most boarders lost every bit of tack they owned, including their Ansur saddles, approximately twenty in all. “When word got out about the fire, a lot of people in the community donated very nice, treed saddles to the barn for boarders to use,” recalled Rebecca. “It was a lovely gesture, but no one could stand riding in them. Everyone couldn’t wait to get their Ansurs back.”

This, Rebecca asserts, is testament to just how transformative the saddles have been to her barn, which opened in 2003 and is located just 45 minutes north of the nation’s capital. Rebecca discovered Ansur saddles a year earlier, when she was coaching Victoria’s daughter, Nicki, at the Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Dressage Championships, where Nicki was competing her mare at first level as a Junior Young Rider. Nicki rode her mare in a very expensive, custom-made, treed saddle, but still the mare would drag her hind toes. Ansur had an exhibit booth at the show, so Rebecca borrowed an Ansur Classic for Nicki to use in the championship class. In the Ansur, Nicki’s mare didn’t drag her toes—and she won the class. For the awards ceremony, they put the treed saddle back on the horse, and once again she began dragging behind. “I knew then that Ansur was on to something,” said Rebecca
